A life skills education is a powerful tool for change.

Momentum supports education and social integration initiatives for people in prison and those serving community-based sentences. We do this by supporting the delivery of life and financial skills programmes in prisons and in the community.

By connecting people with strengths-based, practical life skills programmes, we help equip them to become productive, independent, and confident individuals capable of positive change.

Since 2018, we have partnered with Life101,  a leading provider of life skills programmes in New Zealand’s prisons and Community Corrections Centres. Life101 employs specialised facilitators who have lived or professional experience working in the justice system, earning high levels of engagement from participants. Together, we reach up to 5,000 at-risk individuals each year, equipping them with essential life and financial skills.

Programmes

The programmes are interactive and hands-on, with open kōrero, group discussions, and practical activities that keep participants engaged. Each session is goal-focused, helping participants plan real, positive steps toward a better future. Designed for different learning styles, the programmes make learning accessible, relevant, and easy to connect with. Participants receive a practical workbook and free access to Launchpad an online life and financial skills course, that supports them to keep building confidence and capability beyond the programme.
