About 40% of our prison population are people on remand. These are people who are awaiting trial, or have yet to be sentenced. Unlike people who have been sentenced and are serving their time, people on remand do not have access to rehabilitative or educational programmes.

We think all people who are in prison – whether on remand or not – should have access to rehabilitative and educational programmes.
